SUPPORTING YOUNG PEOPLE INTO EDUCATION AND WORK

Bursary

Dion Hesson

January 2026 Bursary Beneficary

We are pleased to announce that Dion was selected for a bursary. In January 2026, our Chairman, Sandy Saunders, presented Dion with a Sony Camera to support his continued development and study.

Our bursary programme removes financial barriers to education, training and essential equipment, enabling individuals to pursue their ambitions and achieve long-term success.

We congratulate Dion and look forward to following his progress.

Case Study: Dion Hesson - January 2026

Receiving the Beacon EVT bursary at this stage in my studies has been incredibly meaningful. I’m currently starting my second year of the Directing Documentary masters at the National Film and Television School, and this support has enabled me to purchase my first professional digital camera, a vital tool as I further develop my practice as an emerging non-fiction filmmaker.

Coming from a non-traditional background and having entered the industry through an apprenticeship rather than university, opportunities like this have been essential in helping me progress. Owning my own camera gives me the freedom to work independently outside of school facilities. This independence is crucial for documentary making, which often requires spontaneity, long term commitment and the ability to capture moments (mostly unexpected) as they happen. I’m grateful to the Beacon EVT Bursary for investing in me at such a pivotal moment in my career.
